Plans are in place for the first ever Tent Revival (as far as we can tell from our history) at St. Francis. A tent revival is alot like the way it sounds - a gathering of people under a tent - people hoping to revive the movement of the Spirit of God among them. There will be music, talks and witnesses, and fellowship. The closest thing we've had to a Tent Revival was somewhere in the vicinity of 2003, St. Francis of Assisi Parish held an event we lovingly called “The Tent Event.” During this time in our parish life we had a very active group of teenagers who were always hungry for more. These teens are now well on their way to graduating from college – but in their day they offered a strong witness of Christian zeal to the parishioners of St. Francis.
Several of them sang in a group called “Awed By God,” a youth folk group that worshiped at the 11:30 Mass every other week, and all of them were involved in CYM, as well as attended several Steubenville East youth conferences. We wait with expectancy to see how God will work in these teens as they journey into adulthood. Will that one enter the Seminary and become a priest? Will this one become a powerful lawyer? Will they get married and have children? Will they continue to nurture their spiritual lives through the difficult young adult years when many others will leave the church? These teens hungered to know more about Christ, to spend more time with Him, to grow in deeper relationship with Him and one another. It was out of this hunger that the idea for the Tent Event was born. Musicians, speakers, and witnesses were gathered to spend a day under the tent with our youth. Father Bob Guilmette came to say Mass. The theme chosen was “Shelter Me O God.” One of our witnesses shared his experience of near homelessness and poverty. Others spoke about the shelter offered by God’s love and our Catholic faith. Please consider joining us for the Tent Revival. It will be geared to an adult audience. We are seeking to inspire and ignite the spirit within us to give us the courage to go out to the world and share the love of Christ. The Tent will be waiting for you - September 12, 7:00-10:00PM. Our theme is “We Must Go,” using as inspiration the Tim Hughes song by the same name. “We must go, live to feed the hungry, stand beside the broken, we must go. Stepping forward keep us from just singing – move us into action…” Please join us for a time of seeking the voice of God through the music, speakers, and opportunity for confession.
