Baptism

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2-38

Baptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation. It is the sacrament that frees a person from original sin and makes that person a member of Christ and his Church. One must be baptized before sharing in any of the other sacraments. Therefore, it is the way to a new and supernatural life.

Receiving This Sacrament

Baptism is a sacrament that may only be received once, and is usually received during infancy. Babies should be baptized as soon as possible after birth (ideally within a few weeks). If you would like to have your child baptized at St. Francis, please contact the parish office for more information.

An adult who has not yet received baptism may be baptized into the Catholic Church after completing the RCIA program ("Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults"). Please visit the Faith Formation section of this site to learn more about RCIA.
